Combined cycle gas turbines are highly efficient when run at constant power (comubstion turbines are less efficient due to the lack of the steam bottoming cycle). However, varying the power of the turbines makes them less efficient and hence more carbon intensive. My concern is that cheap natural gas will lull the US into energy complacency as it did in the 80s and 90s. I am not sure that natural gas and rlnewabees make such a low carbon pair.
