Together we made hundreds of phone calls yesterday to Massey Coal, flooding their phone lines asking them to stop abusing the tree sitters and stop blasting Coal River Mountain. We did a great job, but it wasn’t enough and we need to take the next step and get WV Governor Joe Manchin to make them stop.
Call Governor Manchin’s office and ask him to intervene in the violence against the sitters and support the end to mountaintop removal.

The receptionist was sweet as pie! I told her the governor needed to stop the air horns, that violence was being illegally perpetrated against the demonstrators, and that if he didn’t stop it, there would be a permanent stain on the reputation of the state of West Virginia. .
When I just called I also told her that I was from Tennessee so that they will realize that people outside of their state are also for the treesitters.
The receptionist was very nice and assured me my message would be passed on to the governor
I called this afternoon and spoke to Mary for 15 minutes. She left the phone several times to verify information. She told me the governor was at that moment scheduling a meeting but was not specific about the attendees. I repeated the governor’s comments from yesterday and asked what was being done to prevent more abuse. She said he was working hand in hand with the state police. Mary took my name and phone number to give to Matt Turner who was in charge of communications and would have him call me back with the answers to my questions. I did share my location (Aridzona) and that I have been going to WV for over 60 years visiting to relatives who are very affected by the coal industry (being unable to sell since a mine goes under her home) and having breathing problems.
Susan, just for conversation and posting information. It’s not about the underground mines…and we here call it Arizona. I did not know CGZ drew up a bill and the spelling of said state has been amended.
called the governor’s office and let the receptionist know I am from Columbus – Ohio … and made sure to emphasize that the tree sitters along with the mountain are protected!!
I called today and the receptionist said, “I’ll add your name to the list and pass it along to Gov. Manchin”. She only ask where I was calling from.
