Jacqueline Quimby was released from South Central Regional Jail on October 2 after serving a 60-day sentence for blocking a haul road to a mountaintop removal mine last October.
Quimby refused a plea agreement and took her case to a jury trial stating that, “I knew going into this action that I would take the case to trial…taking a stand against mountain top removal meant challenging the systems that support it, and that includes the West Virginia judicial system.” On April 22, Magistrate Tim Halloran sentenced Quimby to 60 days for trespass, obstruction and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor. Quimby was the only one to receive a jail sentence. The other 7 accepted the plea agreement and received only fines. She began her sentence on August 9.
Jacqueline would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE for the large amount of letters and support she received during her time in jail. She is also sending the love and support of many of the inmates she met to the larger movement! Jacqueline encourages everyone to continue fighting for the rights of Appalachia!
