Host a Fundraiser or Speaker: Raise funds for Climate Ground Zero by hosting a speaker, concert, movie (such as Mari-Lynn Evans & Phylis Geller’s documentary Coal Country), or some other event. Contributions by our supporters go a long way in enabling us to continue our nonviolent direct action campaign. This is also a great way to get your community involved and help spread awareness of the devastating effects of mountaintop removal.
Tell your Congresspersons to outlaw valley fills: There is legislation in both the House (Clean Water Protection Act) and the Senate (Appalachia Restoration Act) that would outlaw valley fills. These laws would protect streams, reduce flooding, and make mountaintop removal much more expensive. This is a critical step in abolishing mountaintop removal.
Invite Obama to see MTR! Before Obama decides to allow the continued destruction of Appalachia, we’re inviting him to come see what and who is suffering from his inaction. Take action online at http:ga3.org/campaign/obamamtr OR write a letter to:

Slow valley fill permitting: Tell the Army Corps they MUST require environmental analysis and individual Clean Water Act permits for valley fills. Comments must be sent on or before August 14th. Send them online at http://tinyurl.com/mccmlw or mail them to:

Protect Elementary schoolkids from toxic waste: Marsh Fork Elementary school sits 225 feet from a coal loading silo and 400 yards below a leaking dam holding back 2.8 billion gallons of toxic coal slurry waste. Demand that West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd permanently protect these children by including a new Marsh Fork school in bill HR 2187, which funds construction of new schools. Call Senator Byrd at (202) 224-395 or write to:
300 Virginia Street East, Suite 2630 Charleston, WV 25301
Tell the Environmental Protection Agency to save Coal River Mountain: Ask the EPA to reject valley fill permits for the proposed mines on Coal River Mountain, the last intact mountain in the Coal River Valley. The permits are Massey Energy’s Bee Tree, Eagle #2, and Eagle #3. Be sure to tell them who you are and why it matters to you.
